Cosmetic Weapon Effects and Shop Customization

In the game shop, players can acquire custom visual effects and skins to alter the look of their equipment. Cosmetic effects specifically attach to standard melee tools, including the bat and the katana. Players obtain these visual modifiers from crates or through seasonal event releases, such as the Halloween updates.

Weapon effects remain entirely cosmetic. Equipping an effect alters the visual presentation when holding or swinging the weapon, but it does not alter weapon range, modify hitboxes, change damage values, or grant extra Smile Coins on hit.

Potion Glows and Physical Stat Modifiers

Consuming potions introduces distinct status effects accompanied by colored character glows that telegraph active stat changes across the map. When a Smiling player drinks a Jump Potion, their character emits a green glow, gaining a 60 percent boost to jump height while losing 30 maximum health. Drinking a Speed Potion causes the character to emit a yellow glow, granting a 50 percent increase to movement speed at the cost of 30 maximum health.

Other consumable effects apply utility modifications directly to the user. Consuming a Big Head potion alters the character model and lets the player see through solid walls. Drinking an Iron Potion provides defensive reinforcement, helping players endure incoming weapon swings from opponents who spam attacks.

Role Status Effects and Screen Overlays

Environmental conditions and team balance trigger unique status overlays across players. When 20 percent or fewer players on a server remain on the Smiling team, the Endangered status effect activates. Affected infected players display a red aura with floating Winning Smile particles, receive an increase to 200 maximum health, gain potion mobility bonuses, and become immune to knife grab escapes. During the Darkness server modifier, infected characters naturally emit a red outline glow that reveals their positions in dark environments.

Combat actions also inflict visual impairment overlays. Striking an infected target in the head with a hatchet produces a one-second blindness effect, causing the victim screen to go completely black. Transforming into a Smiling also triggers a short screen vignette alongside an on-screen text alert before the infected model loads.
