Iron Potion Effects and Stat Adjustments

Drinking an iron potion applies a specialized defensive combat state tailored for smilings attempting to secure infections. The effect raises maximum health from 100 to 110 points, while lowering default walking speed slightly from 18 to 17.5. This exchange prioritizes durability and hold strength over raw mobility.

The primary benefit activates during grab interactions. Under normal circumstances, survivors equipped with a knife or hatchet can strike back to break a hold immediately. When the attacking smiling has an active iron potion effect, defensive knife strikes fail to trigger an escape, consuming weapon meter without releasing the player. The effect lasts five minutes, remaining active until the timer expires or the smiling dies.

Because only infected players can collect and drink the item, survivors cannot use it defensively. Smilings who spawn with the item or reach designated pickup points gain an advantage against survivors holding sharp defensive weapons near infection lights.

Map Spawn Locations and Collection Steps

Iron potions spawn across specific maps, with certain variants requiring physical interactions to reach the bottle.

Aquarium

  1. Enter the map as an infected smiling.
  2. Locate the metal beam suspended above the glass enclosure.
  3. Approach the beam and hold the interact key (E) continuously for 25 seconds.
  4. Allow the beam to crash downward, shattering the glass barrier below.
  5. Step into the revealed lower section to pick up the standard iron potion.

Steel Bridges

  1. Drop down near the lower scaffolding near the starting point.
  2. Enable shift lock to maintain balance along narrow metal beams.
  3. Jump across the elevated corner platforms where the potion rests along the dark ledge.

Warehouse

  1. Check the storage corridors and wooden cargo surfaces.
  2. Locate the splash bottle variant sitting on designated crates.
  3. Walk into the item to store or consume the iron splash potion immediately.

Accessing these stages depends on the server rotation, though players holding VIP status can vote for specific maps or trigger map rotations.

Choosing Between Potion Options

Infectious Smile features standard and splash versions of the iron effect alongside other consumable potions. Selecting the proper consumable depends on current inventory and encounter distance.

Potion OptionBest SituationTrade-off
Standard Iron PotionExtended rounds targeting grouped survivors near weaponsRequires 25 seconds to unlock in Aquarium and lowers speed to 17.5
Iron Splash PotionImmediate skirmishes in close quarters like WarehouseActive duration lasts 2 minutes and 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes
Default Grab (No Potion)Fast ambushes against unarmed survivorsLeaves the attacker vulnerable to knife breaks and stun tools

Combat Strategy Against Escape Tools

Holding a human survivor requires managing defensive counters. Survivors frequently carry defensive blades to break free from grabs before infection meters fill. Activating an iron potion neutralizes this tactic by absorbing the strike and draining defensive durability.

The potion pairs effectively with light dragging tactics. Once a grab connects, the smiling can guide the survivor into infected light zones without losing control from knife swings. Smilings should time the potion consumption directly before entering heavily defended survivor forts, ensuring the five-minute timer covers the full assault.
