Infectious Smile Volatile Facility Stage Layout and Hazard Guide

Infectious Smile volatile facility is a two-story industrial stage featuring deteriorating walkways, environmental hazards, and a short obstacle course that rewards survivors with the knife weapon before exit gates seal during server disasters.

Stage Architecture and Two-Floor Layout

Volatile Facility functions as an industrial interior stage in the standard rotation of maps. The area divides into two main vertical levels positioned over an open void. Suspended shipping containers, overhead wiring, and loaded storage platforms hang from the ceiling structure.

The top floor contains both the round entrance and the exit gate. Movement across the upper level relies on two primary bridges, structural pipes, and a ladder connection leading down to the lower tier. A perimeter conveyor positioned near the ceiling along the left wall provides an additional crossing point above the void.

The bottom floor consists of open flooring with a large standing puddle of water, a central bridge, and ladders returning to the upper deck. Warning markers line both sides of the perimeter walls. Surviving humans frequently use the exposed drop to ragdoll smiling infected into the void below.

The stage progressively deteriorates as round timers tick down. Environmental destruction triggers independently of player counts, creating sudden dead ends and lethal hazards.

Structural Deterioration and Map Events

Map deterioration occurs at random intervals throughout a match. While individual events trigger unpredictably, almost all of them activate before a round concludes.

Walkway collapses pose immediate lethal threats to anyone standing underneath or on affected structures:

  1. The right walkway breaks when a storage platform collapses, dropping several crates onto the path.
  2. The middle walkway snaps when a suspended container falls, instantly eliminating any players caught below it.
  3. The left walkway destabilizes over time, causing both the walkway section and its connecting plank to plummet into the abyss.
  4. Upper wall vents release bursts of high-velocity air across the walkway, pushing characters off the edge.

Secondary hazards deal rapid tick damage instead of instant falls. The water puddle on the bottom floor becomes lethal once a nearby power box sparks, dealing 30 damage per tick to anyone stepping through the puddle. Overhead pipes also rupture into steam plumes. Steam leaks deal 30 damage per tick, but players can approach the lower pipe valves to divert steam via proximity prompts.

Knife Spawn and Collection Obby

Volatile Facility contains a permanent spawn location for the knife, which is one of the obtainable close-range weapons in the game.

To reach the weapon, players must descend to the bottom floor and head toward the back perimeter wall. A short parkour course extends along the wall surface, leading directly to the knife pickup and a collectible audio log. Collecting every armament within a single round contributes toward completion requirements for specific game badges.

Disaster Behavior and Mountain Collapses

Volatile Facility is the first map in the game to introduce interactive stage mechanics that respond to global disaster events. When the server initiates a flood, rising lava, or mountain collapse, an emergency siren activates.

The disaster trigger initiates specific map states:

  • The exit gate permanently lowers and seals, preventing players from leaving through the top floor door.
  • Players positioned on the bottom floor avoid lethal debris from the initial mountain collapse.
  • Remaining on the lower floor does not guarantee long-term survival, as characters still fall out once the server transitions to the next stage.
